Frequently Asked Questions
| Who is it for? | People who are interested in Buddhism or in Buddhist perspectives. Most of last year's participants were in their 20s and early 30s and came from all over the world. We welcome anyone who is open-minded and is eager to inquire into life's deeper meaning. |
| Do I have to be a Buddhist? | No. You absolutely do not have to be a Buddhist to attend the conference. We welcome people of all background to join us in our discussion. We respect everyone's opinions, and we expect that you too will repect others' opinions during the conference |
| What do I need to bring? | comfortable clothing for meditation and exercise, note book and pen. To reduce waste, we encourage you to bring your own meal plates and utensils. |
| What should I not bring? | tank top, shorts, or short skirt (with respect to Monastery rules), meat, illicit drugs, video games, pets |
| Do I have to register? | Yes. Because we are providing meals and venue space is limited, we need to know how many people are coming. If you do not register before the conference, we cannot guarantee that we can accommodate you. To save you and us a lot of trouble, please register. |
| Where can I stay in Berkeley? | The Downtown Berkeley YMCA is only a few blocks away and has a hostel: http://www.baymca.org/dt/downtown-hotel.aspx or http://calparents.berkeley.edu/guide/visiting/stay.html |
| Is free parking provided? | Yes - there is free parking on the street. We suggest carpooling. |
| Which airport do I fly to if I'm flying in? | SFO or Oakland International |
| Can I get a ride to and from the airport? | If you let us know ahead of time, we will contact you for your needs. We will try to take care of everyone's shuttle needs, however, rides are not guaranteed. We may have to suggest transportation methods if needs exceed our capacity. |
| Do I have to attend the whole conference? | We recommend that people stay for the whole conference to experience all the features of the conference. However, we recognize that such arrangement may be inconvenient for some people. If you cannot attend the whole conference, you are still welcomed to participate. However, you will miss a LOT! |
| What meals will be provided at the conference? |
Lunches will be provided on Saturday and Sunday, and dinner will be provided on Saturday evening. |
| How big is this conference? | We anticipate ~50 participants. Most workshop sessions are broken into three topics, therefore each workshop has around 15-20 people. |
